PART 2 OF 2 (for PART 1, click here)

I recently photographed and documented my cousin Westley and his partner Nikita’s wedding in New Hanover at a beautiful venue called Torwoodlea Lodge.

Winter is almost here and the sun goes down early in KZN these days. With the ceremony only kicking off at 4.15 pm, we were working against the clock for available light. I took the just-married couple around the lodge for their post-ceremony photo shoot.

By the time we began the group shots, the sun had gone down and available light was almost non-existent. But fortunately I had planned for this! We used a battery-powered, hand-held videography light to illuminate the bridal party. While I joined the others, Rowan took over on camera, and my niece Casey-Lee assisted with holding the light.

This was one of my favourite memories from the wedding; we all laughed so much because we couldn’t really see my assistant photographer (Rowan) so we all kept staring into the light and not knowing which angle he was shooting from. This, for me, was perfect, because we captured the real expressions and uncontrived happiness from each person.

The rest of the evening was a blur of running around, mingling with my family members, and taking hundreds of photos of the reception and all the traditional wedding activities.

Wait - what does that label say?? ;)

I was super exhausted by the time the evening came to a close, but I loved the experience of being both bridesmaid and photographer, and will cherish these memories. Congratulations, Westley and Nikita!
